Science Policy

Our Intent:

We aim to deliver a high-quality Science curriculum which provides foundations for understanding the world. Science has changed our lives and is vital to the world’s future prosperity, and all pupils will be taught the essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science. Through building up a body of key foundation knowledge and concepts, pupils are encouraged to recognise the power of rational explanation and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena. They are also encouraged to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes.


Our Implementation:

In Science we use our Key Objective Progression and Development by Year group to support skill and knowledge progression from Nursery through to Year Two. These have been divided into the following aspects …

EYFS - 'What have you been learning about the weather at Autumn time?'


The leaves are changing colour because it’s Autumn. We can see hedgehogs. Did you know hedgehogs aren’t allowed any milk to drink? They eat worms. Tiddlers.


We went to look at birds and leaves. The leaves are falling off and are different colours because it’s nearly winter. Angelfish.

We went outside and collected leaves. There were different colours falling down from trees. Angelfish.

We went on an Autumn walk. It was windy. It rained a lot. The leaves were falling off the trees. Starfish

It rains. Windy. It blows all the leaves off. The leaves are green and red and yellow and orange. Starfish

KS1 - 'What have you been learning about in your 'bodies' topic?'


We was talking about our brain. We put the brain and heart and things in the body in the right places. Jellyfish

We learnt about your heart. We drew around someone and put the things inside. Jellyfish

In the shared area we used to have someone’s body and we could take it apart and then put them back in. It was in the hospital role play. Turtles

We drew around someone too but we had to do a line to that bit and say what it was called and write it down. Turtles

Someone had to lie down and we had to draw around them. Then we had to put the body parts in the right part of the body. Dolphins

We learnt whereabouts our body things are inside. Heart, brain, lungs, stomach. Dolphins
