Welcome to

Reception - Angelfish Class.

The teachers in Angelfish class are Mrs Parkinson & Mrs Wagner.

They are supported by Miss Stroud.

Learning for children in Reception is planned for in line with the 7 areas of learning identified within the statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage.

These are divided in to 3 prime areas of learning:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Physical Development
  • Communication and Language

And 4 specific areas of learning:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

The children have had a fantastic start to the Autumn term and settled into Reception well.

They are all working so hard.

Literacy.

In Literacy the children have enjoyed sharing a range of stories, using actions and story maps to retell them.

They have talked about and described different characters and are beginning to write about them.

The children have been doing guided reading sessions in small groups with Mrs Parkinson and Mrs Wagner. We have used picture books to tell stories, discuss characters and predict what might happen next. We are now using books with words and children are beginning to apply their phonic knowledge to sound out words, with some children beginning to blend and read some words by sight and read simple sentences. The children are practising their listening skills in this time and are becoming more confident in answering questions and talking in front of a group.

                                                                       Phonics.

In Phonics children are working really hard to remember all the new sounds they have been learning from phase 2 and 3.

Can they write some simple words with these sounds in?

Can they use them to attempt to write simple sentences?

Can they hold their pencil correctly to support good letter formation?

                                                                                  Maths.

In Maths we have been practising counting to 10 and beyond. We have been recognising and writing numbers. We have looked at finding one more, comparing groups to say which has more and less. Recently we are looking at finding how many altogether working on simple addition problems.

The children have also enjoyed exploring 2D shapes and 3D shapes, comparing length and learning about money.

Other areas of learning.

We have been having lots of fun in our Music lessons with Mr Warnock, learning all about different beats and rhythm.

Children have enjoyed exploring the different areas of provision. We have particularly enjoyed our creative activities linked to our weekly Literacy book.

Children have enjoyed exploring our outside area, using the mud kitchen to create mud pies and exploring the wildlife including digging for worms, talking about which is the biggest and smallest.

We had lots of fun exploring the school grounds looking for signs of Autumn.

Children are becoming much more independent while getting changed for PE - well done! Our Topic for PE this half term is hockey. Children will be practising moving around the hall safely, using equipment safely, developing ball control skills and working on dribbling and passing.

We are so excited to see where our learning journey takes us next!
