The children have had a fantastic start to the Spring term.
They are all working so hard and are very excited about our new topic!
Our topic is 'Dinosaurs'
We have been reading the much loved story 'Dinosaurs Love Underpants' by Claire Freedman.
The children have enjoyed using actions and story maps to retell the story. They also had a
go at designing their own underpants for the Dinosaurs!
In phonics children are working really hard to remember all the new sounds they have been learning.
Can they practise writing these sounds at home?

Can they write some simple words with these sounds in?
Can they hold their pencil correctly to support good letter formation?
In maths we have been practising counting to 10 and beyond. We have been recognising and writing numbers. The children have also enjoyed exploring Numicon and are using the Numicon shapes to help them solve mathematical problems.
We have been having lots of fun in our Music lessons with Mr Warnock, learning all about different beats and rhythm.
The children have been doing guided reading sessions in small groups with Mrs Thorpe and Mrs Parkinson. We have used picture books to tell stories, discuss characters and predict what might happen next. We are now using books with words and children are beginning to apply their phonic knowledge to sound out words, with some children beginning to blend and read some words by sight. The children are practising their listening skills in this time and are becoming more confident in answering questions and talking in front of a group.
Other Areas of Learning
Children have enjoyed exploring the different areas of provision.
Children have enjoyed exploring our outside area, using the mud kitchen to create mud pies and exploring the wildlife including digging for worms, talking about which is the biggest.
Children have been very independent while getting changed for PE - Well Done! Our Topic for PE this half term is Gymnastics. Children will be practising moving around the hall safely, transporting equipment safely and developing gymnastic skills such as balancing, jumping and rolling.
It's going to be another fantastic term in the Angelfish Class!
